Sigma Haul & First Impressions

Hey everyone,

So on the 29th of June I made an order with Sigma. If you read my previous posts on Sigma (click here, if you haven't.), you know I'm a very big fan and love their brushes.

I decided to place an order for some brushes I've heard a lot about but have yet to try, and also a second brush of one I currently own.

As always, the Sigma brushes come in a pretty red draw string bag with some leaflets about the brushes and how to use them.

Onto the brushes:

F80: Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki - $16
E50: Large Fluff - $9
E20: Short Shader - $9
E40: Tapered Blending - $9
E25: Blending - $9

Now, on to my first impressions of these brushes.

F80 - This brush is unbelievably soft. It is the first brush I pulled out of the bag and immediately had to touch it. It is just SO soft. I bought this brush due to seeing so many YouTube reviews and blog reviews about how amazing it is for foundation application. I have yet to try this out but so far, I'm impressed. There was a tiny bit of shedding when I first washed this, by "tiny" I literally mean 1 or 2 hairs. Nothing I'm concerned about.

E50
- Again, this brush is insanely soft. It's very big and very dense. I bought this as it's supposed to be some-what comparable to the MAC 227. I know of many people who use this for a quick application of an all over lid colour, or use it to apply your highlight colour and soften the edges of a look. I am going to try it both ways and see which way works best for me. Again, shedding when first washed was minimal. 1 or 2 hairs maximum.

E20
- This brush is again, like all Sigma brushes, is soft. It is very, very short. I bought this brush for the purpose of applying eyeshadow to my lower lash line, or even my upper lash line. It is definitely small enough to get in there without adding too much colour. I can't wait to use it. As with all of these brushes, shedding was minimal when first washed, 1 or 2 hairs.

E40 - This brush, I already own. Unfortunately I had a bit of a problem when I received this brush. There was something... sticky, in the bristles. I've never experienced this with my Sigma brushes so it was quite a shock. I figured it was nothing and washed it like I did the others, however it just wouldn't come out. Four washes later, I gave up. I e-mailed Sigma and told them about this, and they responded by telling me they would send me a new one out immediately and apologised for any inconvenience. Apart from that, this brush is once again, soft. I'm sure you're probably wondering how I can say that with the sticky residue in there, however it didn't affect the feel of the overall brush. I bought this for the purpose of applying concealer - I've heard many people apply concealer with this type of brush and I'm curious as to how it will work out. Worst comes to worst, it doesn't apply how I like it and I just wash it and use it as a blending brush.

E25 - I was sent a small E25 as a "Gift with Purchase over $30" as Sigma always does. Oddly enough, I had some issues with this one too. When it arrived, the hairs were splayed everywhere and try as hard as I might, I could not get them to even slightly reshape when I washed it. I contact Sigma about this one also, and again their response was the same. They sent me a new one out immediately and apologise for any inconvenience. Now, I'm sure you're wondering WHY I complained about this brush to them, as it was free. Well, wouldn't you? I mean, it's a brush you can use. Also, as they send these out with every order over $30, it's showing the quality of their brushes. This was not their usual quality and I not only wanted the right quality, but I wanted them to know that the quality was lacking with this specific brush. Who knows, maybe a few of them were like that. Again, this brush is still very soft and I experienced no shedding at all when washing this.

Overall - I'm very happy with my purchase. Yes, I had issues with two of them, but I'm not going to let that affect my feelings for the company or the other brushes I ordered. I can't wait to use them and do a full review on them. I'm also happy with Sigma's customer service. I had never needed to get in contact with them before, but I can now say they do have great service and are happy to help fix any problems you may have with your order.

You can buy all of the above mentioned products at Sigma and remember you get a free gift with every purchase over $30.

  1. I love their brushes too. The F80 is really tempting, shame it has to come from the US. Just discovered your blog:)

  2. Thank you for commenting - I hope you like it!

I agree it's a shame about having to come from the US, however the shipping time is usually quite quick. :)

  3. i feel like i would buy their brushes if i was about to touch them, and look at them in person before i purchased them. then the likelyhood of there being a hit or miss brush would be more hit than miss!
    nice haul though :-)

  5. nana - I agree it'd be great if you could see them in real life, and although there was this small "hiccup" with this order, the customer service was very quick in dispatching another one as soon as I informed them so I'm not complaining! :) Thank you!

Diane - This is what I strive to do - help people choose things that they were somewhat uncertain about! I'm so glad you found this helpful! I'll be sure to check it out! Thanks so much!
